Children's Pastor Job Description


  • Modeling Biblical Priorities
  • Uphold Biblical priorities and core values of the Church
  • Commit to a regular quiet-time with God
  • Set appropriate boundaries with time and relationships to protect character and integrity 
  • Develop personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church  


  • Create an environment that recruits, develops and empowers children’s ministry leaders
  • Communicate clear vision and wins for staff and volunteer teams on a regular basis 
  • Build systems and structures that lead people from being spectators to volunteers 
  • Oversee systems for background checks, safety and security procedures, scheduling, training and care of volunteers 
  • Lead volunteer meetings 
  • Champion the children’s ministry leadership development strategy 
  • Provide centralized efforts for training leaders (retreats, tools, etc.) 
  • Provide volunteer teams with current children’s ministry best practices 
  • Ensure that the children’s ministry team answers questions and provides remarkable customer service to parents and kids on a consistent basis 
  • Provide regular evaluations and feedback to team members 
  • Create and continuously improve follow-up methods to ensure that new children and their families are plugged into the Church
  • Manage budget forecasts and expenses for ministry



  • Create programs that provide engaging experiences and life-changing environments for children
  • Provide insight and direction for big picture programming and creative planning processes 
  • Utilize and develop Strategy
  • Collaborate with Pre-School Director to ensure that check-in areas, ministry spaces and signage are clear, current and focused on children and their families 
  • Produce videos, weekly scripts and lessons, printed promotions, verbal announcements, web page information, marketing, etc. about the Children's Ministry 
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for children, including special needs



  • Construct practical onramps and systems to help kids move from visiting to belonging and growing
  • Develop a systematic and effective effort to integrate children’s small groups into weekend environments
  • Oversee information and tracking of small group participants and leaders and turning those number into Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 
  • Actively encourage small group leaders to connect with families and children during the week 
  • Provide opportunities for children to discover their unique purpose and begin developing their talents and abilities 
  • Implement the strategy to equip parents to help their children take their next steps toward Christ



  • Serve as primary leader to families with children K-6th grade
  • Drive the Children’s Ministry to match our core values 
  • Required to be strategically visible during the weekend services, attend weekly staff meetings, agreed upon leadership retreats, conferences, and seminars
  • Clerical duties as needed (filing, data entry, incoming and outgoing mail etc.)
  • Collaborate with Student Pastor and Pre-School Director to insure seamless flow of strategy between the ministries
  • Network with other Children’s Pastors 
  • Attend weekly Staff Meetings
  • Meet with Direct Report twice a month or more if needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
